Dear readers,

Portrait of Karin König

The healthcare sector is undergoing greater change today than ever before: digitalisation and artificial intelligence are opening up new opportunities, the shortage of skilled workers is presenting the healthcare system with major challenges, and issues such as prevention and climate change are becoming increasingly important. The move towards academic qualifications in the healthcare professions 20 years ago was an important step towards preparing for these developments.

With its bachelor’s degree programmes in Orthoptics, Occupational Therapy, Radiological Technology, Biomedical Sciences, Physiotherapy, Midwifery and Nursing, Salzburg University of Applied Sciences has been making a significant contribution to educating highly qualified healthcare professionals in Salzburg for the past 20 years

In this anniversary edition of our magazine "warum!", we look at what we will need in the future. How do we prepare students for this? And what contribution can teaching and research in the healthcare sector make? The answers are varied: innovative teaching and learning methods, new degree programmes, international networking and research into highly topical issues. We tell the stories of the people, projects and ideas that are actively shaping this development.

I hope you enjoy reading and discovering!
