New Bachelor’s degree

Speech and Language Therapy

Speaking, understanding, hearing, swallowing: abilities that most people take for granted can be impaired by developmental disorders, illness or old age. Speech and language therapists help people to maintain or regain their ability to communicate – and with it, an important measure of independence and quality of life. From the 2027/28 winter semester, FH Salzburg will expand its course offerings to include this professional field, which has great social relevance.

The Bachelor’s degree programme in Speech and Language Therapy* combines medical knowledge with linguistics, psychology and therapeutic skills. Students learn to diagnose and treat language, speech, voice, hearing and swallowing disorders. Key areas of focus include paediatrics, audiology, geriatrics and neurorehabilitation, as well as swallowing disorders and augmentative and alternative communication.

A key component is the practical focus: application-oriented modules and work placements in various healthcare settings enable students to put what they have learnt into practice at an early stage. At the same time, topics such as teletherapy, evidence-based practice and interprofessional collaboration prepare students for a healthcare system that is constantly evolving.

The result is a training programme for a diverse professional field that focuses on a fundamental human need: to communicate, to participate and to live a self-determined life.
