Interview – “Everyone enjoys playing”

Florian Jindra, a lecturer at the Department of Creative Technologies and a graduate of the bachelor's and master's programs in MultiMediaArt, founded the gaming event “Ludecat” ten years ago.

Why is playing so beneficial?

When we play, we practice and train many skills. It is also a strong social experience and simply fun. This is why games are increasingly used in industry—for simulations and training, for example. Advertising campaigns rarely do without playful elements like bonus points or high scores.

What is the goal of the “Ludecat”?

We want to introduce new games. These are digital games that can be played together without prior knowledge. Social interaction is the focus. Ideally, the grandmother plays with her grandchild. Ludecat also aims to break down prejudices against computer games.

How many people do you reach?

Ludecat has been around for about ten years, and we have reached around 100,000 people. Another platform in Salzburg is the gaming fair Levelup. All types of games are represented there, and our students can present their self-developed games to a larger audience.

What is your wish for the future?

Salzburg is a perfect location for training game developers. However, we are not sufficiently able to retain graduates in the region. Support for young companies is needed.
